Me
Emotional intelligence refers to self-awareness and self-management, which we previously discussed under the concept of vertical development.
Examples of a lack of emotional intelligence include:
• An outburst of anger due to not recognizing and managing early warning signs
• Critical, aggressive, or uncooperative communication
• Withdrawing from interactions or avoiding communication altogether
• Failing to acknowledge or recognize what is happening in a relationship
You
Social intelligence is the ability to understand another person’s emotional experience. It manifests in the ability to step into someone else’s shoes, see from their perspective, and empathize with their situation as if experiencing it firsthand.
Examples of a lack of social intelligence include:
• Criticizing without acknowledging what is going well
• Judging others or feeling judged
• Avoiding difficult conversations or failing to ask questions
• Lacking openness, curiosity, or flexibility
Us
Systemic relational intelligence is the ability to identify with and collaborate within groups, teams, and social systems. It reflects the sense of belonging to something greater than oneself.
Examples of a lack of systemic relational intelligence include:
• A leader who doesn’t know how to create an environment where the team feels comfortable sharing what’s happening among its members
• A few team members dominating discussions while others remain completely silent
• Gossip and behind-the-scenes conversations instead of open dialogue
• A problem within the team that remains unspoken or unacknowledged, preventing any real solution from emerging
